Myanmar's 2000-year-old Sule Paya pagoda re-covered in gold

The five-yearly renovation of Yangon’s 2000-year-old Sule Paya (Sule Pagoda)  is due to be completed this week. The renovation process, which began in December, sees the temple re-clad in hundreds of solid gold plates and thousands of gold leaf squares.

Each of the gold plates costs around US$1100. Sule Paya is a 46m-tall landmark pagoda occupying a major traffic circle in the centre of the city of Yangon. Read more: bangkokpost.com
