Road race turns amphibious as drivers go into the sea on Karachi seafront

A road race between youths in Karachi had a soggy end on Monday, as both drivers drove their vehicles into the sea on Sea View Beach.

The cars became swamped in soft sand and were abandoned in the surf before the police arrived. Illegal street races are a popular activity for youth gangs in Karachi, with roads along the city’s long seafront being the most popular racetrack. The underground racing scene is an ongoing headache for the authorities, who are regularly called on to pursue drivers creating their own version of The Fast & The Furious along the waterfront.
