Paris' historic Colonne de Juillet monument to be restored and reopened to public

The Colonne de Juillet, a historic monument in the centre of Paris’ Bastille roundabout is to be restored and reopened to the public, according to an announcement by mayor Anne Hidalgo.

The column, which is dedicated to the memory of the 1830 July Revolution, has been closed since 1985. It stands in the centre of one of the city’s busiest roundabouts, but the mayor plans to pedestrianise part of the Place de la Bastille, making access easier.
