Costa Ricans hit the river shores for Picnic en Río to celebrate and save the nation's waterways

This weekend, Ticos will flock to the nation’s rivers to celebrate Picnic en el Río (Picnic at the River). This initiative was started last year by the organization Río Urbano designed to get Costa Ricans outside, foster community activity, and raise awareness for preserving the nation’s waterways.

The event will take place at several official picnic sites across the central part of the country. Participants can register their own picnics via the event website so others may find and join the initiative. Some locations will also be hosting other activities including musical performances and public art. Picnickers are invited to share their experiences across social media with the hashtag #PicnicenelRíoCR
