Elton John to play concert at Pompeii

Elton John will become the first artist to play at Pompeii’s Roman amphitheatre in over forty years when he performs on 12 July for an audience of just 2000 people.

In ancient times the amphitheatre would have been used for gladiatorial shows, and the archaeological superintendent of Pompeii, Massimo Osanna, is keen to revive its use as a venue for live music events, so this concert may be the first of many.
