Communist-era bikes back in fashion in Bulgaria and Romania

Bikes produced by local companies during the communist era are becoming all the rage in Bulgaria  and Romania as the young people in these countries are embracing the ‘hipster’ lifestyle.

Once seen as symbols of the communist period, the bikes are now seen as vintage and fashionable, so the savvy local companies are giving them a makeover and reintroducing them to the market. In Bulgaria, Balkanvelo is offering two models, Comfort and Classic. In Romania, the popular Pegas which was produced in Transylvania during the Ceausescu regime is also back on the market.
