Apple has announced the launch of its contactless Apple Pay service in China this week.
Apple has partnered with China’s UnionPay bankcard service, allowing users of newer iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch devices to pay through the contactless Wallet app at participating points of sale. Apple Pay will likely face stiff competition from Alipay, China’s leading contactless payment service, which has already been available in China for several years. Travellers and visitors will also be able to avail of the service in China if they have an Apple Pay account set up in their home country, though are advised to check with their local bank before travelling to ensure that their payments will be accepted.
