Moroccans rejoice as heavy snowfall hits Ifrane

On Monday, a video was posted to social media showing heavy snowfall in Ifrane, a mountainous region known as Morocco’s Switzerland.

And whilst adverse weather usually stirs up a negative response, this video has been received with much joy and has been shared widely on social media. Morocco has been suffering an incredibly dry summer, slated as the driest since 1995, so this long anticipated winter weather is highly welcome and should hopefully help to revive part of Morocco’s agricultural industries damaged by lack of rain. With the ensuing cold wave, temperatures are set to drop to between -1 and -9 degrees Celsius and Morocco’s National Directorate of Meteorology has released warnings of heavy snowfall in several regions, including Ifrane.
