Sat nav systems can certainly help drivers to get from A to B, but one motorist wished he’d seen some road signs when he followed his sat nav’s instructions so closely that he ended up plunging his car into the River Elbe at Bleckede, near Hamburg.
The man’s sat nav indicated that he should drive on to a car ferry at the ferry terminal, but the vessel happened to be on the other side of the river at the time. A spokesperson from the local fire service told The Local that there are several warning signs to alert drivers. Meanwhile the driver blamed the bad weather and the darkness for his error. Fortunately he and his three passengers were able to open their doors and swim to the riverbank, before being taken to hospital as a precaution.
