Sea dragons find new home in Dubai Aquarium

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, Dubai Aquarium has welcomed a pair of colourful weedy sea dragons.

Sea dragons, closely related to seahorses, are masters at camouflage – their bodies are covered with colourful, leaf-like appendages that help them blend into their environment. Endemic to the waters off east and south Australia, the unique creatures were transported to Dubai individually, in specialised conditions to help minimise the stress of the journey. General manager and curator of the Dubai Aqauriam, Paul Hamilton, said they have employed a specialist aquarist to help the sea dragons settle in and added ‘they fit in perfectly and owned the tank’.
