When a meme this good comes alive something’s gotta give. Last week an Airbnb listing went up for an apartment in New York’s West Village marketing itself as a real-life Netflix and Chill room.
The project was brought together by Tom Galle, a 31-year-old who works in advertising, and his two housemates, who work for art collective Art 404.
The room is listed at $400 a night, and is kitted out in all that would make it the real-life Netflix and Chill. A projector is set up with an accompanying laptop that has Netflix pre-setup on it, while the bed has the Netflix branded sheets on it and Netflix branded bathrobes.
Although Netflix is not officially behind the Netflix and Chill room, it has in the past played up the meme and adopted it. The meme has become popular as a way to describe staying in for some (ahem) romantic times.
The room was actually envisioned as an art project.”A lot of our work revolves around Internet culture or popular culture. We loved the idea of bringing a meme to life and offer it as a real experience,” Tom Galle told Mashable. “The Netflix and Chill meme sort of naturally came up as the right subject to build a project around, and the idea grew automatically from there.”
The Netflix and Chill room will not be around forever the creators said, who plan to leave it up for two months, and have already got a reservation for the whole month of February.
