Second-largest diamond discovered in Botswana

The Lucara Diamond firm has revealed that it has discovered the world’s second-largest diamond in their Karowe mine just 300 miles north of Gaborone, the capital of Botswana.

The diamond is over 1000 carats, the likes of which haven’t been found in over 100 years. Whilst this is the biggest diamond ever to be found in Botswana, it is beaten for the world record by the 3,106 carat Cullinan diamond. Several of the nine stones cut from the Cullinan diamond feature in the British Crown Jewels.
