German artist alters work after cleaner bins it

German artist Romana Menze-Kuhn was surprised to discover that a cleaner had accidentally thrown away her installation, which symbolised the instability of refugees’ lives, mistaking it for rubbish.

But rather than being angry, the accident inspired the artist to alter the piece at the Phillippus Church in Mannheim, and she retrieved the discarded elements and reassembled them. Speaking to The Local newspaper, Menze-Kuhn said, “The parts which the cleaner put in the bin symbolized for me all the refugees who are coming here that nobody knows what to do with…It had a deep poignancy.” Read more: thelocal.de
