The southern Chinese city of Shenzhen has become the latest city to implement a 72-hour visa-free programme for transiting passengers.
The scheme, which has become popular in a number of Chinese cities over the past few years, allows passengers who have onward travel booked to a third destination to stop over in that city for 72 hours without obtaining a visa beforehand. Shenzhen is a popular daytrip destination for visitors to Hong Kong, as it is just over the border in Guangdong province. However, the scheme only applies to air travellers with tickets booked to an onward destination. The Shenzhen visa-free scheme is expected to go into effect in the first half of the year.
