Shanghai Museum to expand into second branch by 2020

One of China’s first world-class museums, Shanghai Museum, is set to expand into a second branch.

The museum’s curator has announced that a new 80,000-square-metre branch will be built in the city’s Pudong district near the Science and Technology Museum. The existing branch in People’s Square will remain open and later undergo a face lift. Its exhibits will focus on bronze and ceramic artefacts, while the new Pudong space will feature paintings, calligraphy and artwork. Officials expect the new branch to be open within four years.
