If you don’t have time to see a new destination from the ground – check out some new places from above in drone-shot videos that capture amazing views of Germany, Japan, South Africa, Brazil and more.
Emirates airline and plane manufacturer Boeing partnered to produce videos from 18 different places on five continents – and the companies say it is one of the largest aerial filming projects ever conducted using unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones.
The videos are collected on a website, called View from Above, where visitors can spin the globe and check out a few minutes of video footage from each location.
The dramatic footage takes travellers on a virtual tour through the countries, flying behind the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, taking a dizzying soar over tulip fields in the Netherlands and hovering above South Africa’s Table Mountain.
The drones allowed access to aerial views that would not be possible using a helicopter, says Emirates, capturing rice fields in Vietnam, flying between mountain crevices in Norway, and hovering beside cherry blossoms in Japan. In Rio, the drones hover above Maracanã Stadium to show off the iconic football arena.
The areas featured in the films represent some of Emirates major destinations, as well as the company’s home base of Dubai. One video also features Boeing’s hometown of Seattle.
The filming required 13 qualified drone pilots from around the world.
