With a successful Pan Am Games fading into recent memory, the city of Toronto is looking to host its next international event: the World Expo.
On Monday Mayor John Tory will meet with officials from the Bureau International des Expositions, a Paris-based organisation in charge of regulating and overseeing the World Expos. The Toronto Region Board of Trade will also host a panel to discuss the benefits of a 2025 World Expo in Toronto. Held in different cities every five years, the World Expo is a chance for the organization’s 169 member countries to represent their nations by designing and constructing pavilions. If Toronto is selected, the six month event would bring an estimated 40 million tourists to the city.
