‘God Save the Queen’ is the British anthem and is used when teams from the United Kingdom compete at events such as the Olympics. In several sports, including football and rugby, the UK’s individual nations compete separately, and English teams still sing ‘God Save the Queen’, while teams from Scotland and Wales have their own anthems. MPs are set to vote on whether the public should be allowed to choose a new anthem. If a new song was chosen, the musical adaptation of William Blake’s ‘Jerusalem’ would be the likely frontrunner.
