Pair of sperm whales wash up on German coast

Two sperm whales have washed up on the island of Wangerooge, just off Germany’s North Sea coast.

Experts believe that the whales, which are usually found in deep oceans, became disorientated when they found themselves in the shallow waters of the North Sea; the whales’ sonar system, which they use to navigate, is thought to be ineffective at these depths. Authorities are currently making a plan to remove the carcasses from the beach, and have removed their lower jaws to prevent the theft of their ivory teeth. Read more: thelocal.de
