Skiers rejoice as Swiss snow drought comes to an end

The Swiss Alps have finally had snowfall after a month of freakishly warm weather that had disappointed many skiers and snowboarders.

Up to 30cm of snow fell over the weekend and more is predicted this week, although the change in weather came too late for Christmas season holidaymakers, many of whom had packed their bags on Sunday. Resorts in western Switzerland, which was hit hardest by the snow drought had been forced to offer alternative activities for visitors, such as hiking.
