In an effort to boost spending by tourists, the government in Japan is set to develop a smartphone app that will enable visitors to pay for goods and services.
According to a recent Japan Tourism Agency survey, spending by foreign tourists increased 80% during the July to September period of 2015, compared with the previous year. However, not all stores accept credit cards and some visitors are reportedly dissatisfied with the number of currency exchanges. The proposed payment app will be trialled later this year.
