UN adopts resolution on return of Parthenon marbles to Greece

The UN adopted a resolution which calls for the return of the Parthenon Marbles from the British Museum to Athens.

The resolution was adopted unanimously by the UN’s General Assembly and comes just after Greece’s Ministry of Culture announced that it will withdraw from the legal battle for the return of the famous sculptures. The UN’s decision is part of a larger initiative for the protection of cultural heritage and return of cultural property to countries of origin. It also condemns the destruction of cultural heritage in regions affected by armed conflict, as well as the trafficking of cultural property by terrorist groups. Read more: greece.greekreporter.com
