British holiday-makers are increasingly travelling on Christmas Day to get sunshine on the cheap at this time of year.
As record numbers are jetting off for sun breaks, new figures reveals that by flying out on 25 December, there are substantial savings to be made.
The Daily Star reports Gatwick Airport has revealed a 48% jump in business this year over the 2014 figures. Bosses at the airport say that on average fares are 31% lower than any other day in December.
For instance a flight to New York from Gatwick at 5.40pm with Norwegian Air on Christmas Day cost £239 which is in stark contrast to 26 Dec when the same flight costs £100 or 28% more.
In the week before Christmas, a ticket to Miami cost £599 – but it comes at a cut-price £329 on Christmas Day itself.
That day has a number of long-haul destinations with Dubai the top destination with tourists.
Guy Stephenson, a spokesman for Gatwick, said that an increasing number of passengers were “wising up” to the huge saving available by travelling on Christmas Day.
