Despite Syria’s extreme instability at the moment, Bashar al-Assad’s regime has taken the unlikely step of trying to push tourism to the country.
Parties and events are being promoted in the capital of Damascus, souvenirs are being sold and a new tourism app called ‘Mobile Syria’ is being launched by the Tourism Ministry. Against all odds, there is still a small amount of both domestic and foreign tourism in the country, reportedly including several groups of European tourists, who would be travelling against strict government advice. The UK FCO’s advice states that citizens in the country should “leave now” from the “extremely volatile and dangerous” situation. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
