Sweden mulls law change to allow bridge closure

The Swedish government is currently proposing a bill which would enable them to close the Öresund Bridge – which connects Sweden with Denmark – at short notice.

The proposal forms part of a series of measures which could be used by the country to restrict the number of asylum seekers entering Sweden. The bill would mean that the bridge could be closed for short periods of time without it having to be approved by parliament first. Closing the bridge for any length of time would cause major disruption for those who travel for work, as over 30,000 commuters use the bridge to cross between Copenhagen and Malmö each day.
