Russian Arctic Sea researchers surrounded by polar bears

A team of Russian researchers on the island of Vaygach in the Arctic Sea are surrounded by five polar bears, meaning they can’t leave the weather station in which they are based, according to the Russian WWF.

The team is made up of two meteorologists and one engineer, they have no weapons or means of scaring off the bears, and the station area is not fenced. Their work requires leaving the weather station twice a day in order to measure water temperatures in the sea, but the bears have settled in the fields outside the station. Read more: edition.cnn.com
