Oldest food market in Beijing to reopen after 18 years

Beijing’s oldest food market is set to reopen 18 years after it was closed down. The Dongdan Food Market was a centre of local life for many Beijingers, but closed in 1997 as part of the city’s replanning works.

Set to open in its former location at 69 Hepingli Xijie in the Dongcheng district, the market will feature traditional market stalls alongside an upmarket area for tasting and sampling and facilities for lectures and craft-making.
