Hurricane Erika displaces thousands in Dominican Republic

Hurricane Erika’s landfall over the weekend damaged over 800 homes in the Dominican Republic and displaced more than 7300 Dominicans.

The storms caused over 400 road obstructions and a massive power outage, causing the Emergency Operations Center (COE) to issue a red alert on Friday. Despite the damage caused by the storm, however, authorities say that the high level of rainfall has helped relieve the intense drought affecting the country.
