A hilltop shrine in Catalonia, Spain, is looking for a hermit to take up a year-long position as guardian and caretaker.
The unusual job is being advertised via the sanctuary’s Facebook page and applications close on the 31st of August. The shrine, Our Lady of the Rock, is a fairytale hermitage that sits above the Catalan town of Mont-roig del Camp and was the subject of a painting by Spanish artist Joan Miró in 1916. The advert says the job is open to anyone over the age of 18 and describes how the successful applicant will be required to carry out ‘all the proper functions of a hermit’, including conservation of the site, but will also be expected to interact with the public and describe the hermitage’s traditions and customs to visitors.
