Mexico: mystery surrounds Lake Cajititlan fish kill

Thousands of dead fish are being cleaned out of a lake near Guadalajara as authorities argue about the cause.

Local officials say that what’s happened in Lake Cajititlan occurs every year, but others blame water contamination which resulted in lower oxygen levels in the lake, killing off the fish. Either way, fishermen in the area, in a change from their usual activities, are being paid to clear the 40 tonnes of chub from the lake. Read more: bbc.com
