Northern Chile in state of emergency due to heavy rain and flooding

The government of Chile has declared a state of emergency in the northern cities of Antofagasta and Tocopilla after storms brought strong winds, heavy rainfall, flash floods and mudslides to the region four days ago.

Some 830 people fled their homes and six have died. In the town of Tocopilla, more rain fell in three hours than what had been registered in the last seven years. Read more: mercopress.com
