Hiroshima prepares for 70th anniversary of atomic bombing

The city of Hiroshima will tomorrow mark the 70th anniversary of the WWII atomic bombing, with delegates from a record 100 countries expected to attend the ceremony.

Campaigners from around the world have also gathered to take part in anti-nuclear conferences and events. Each year the anniversary is commemorated with a memorial ceremony, beginning at 8.15am, the time that the atomic bomb was detonated over the city by US forces on 6 August 1945. Other events are held in the Peace Memorial Park throughout the day, and lanterns are floated down the river in the evening.  Read more: japantimes.co.jp
