On your marks for the San Francisco Marathon

Visitors to San Francisco this weekend can enjoy their sourdough sandwich while cheering on all those sporty enough to take part in the city’s annual marathon.

The race, celebrating its 38th year, goes past major SF landmarks and gets teasingly close to the Golden Gate Bridge before looping back round to the finish line. Spectators need to be up early though to catch the 5.30am start on Sunday, or still be up at midnight on Saturday to watch the double-distance Ultramarathoners head off.
