Australia has announced a clearer terror threat alert system to be introduced later this year changing the language of the warnings to make it easier for the public to understand.
The prime minister Tony Abbott explained that “At the moment, the terrorist alert levels are extreme, high, medium and low and there’s a bit of interpretation involved in them.” The new system would see the threat levels set at “certain, expected, probable, possible and not expected”. Any changes to the threat level would be accompanied by a statement providing more information on where the threat is coming from and the potential targets.
