Madrid’s historic Ritz hotel is to get a €90 million renovation to bring its faded grandeur bang up to date.
The hotel was built in 1910 and is in a prime location near one of Madrid’s premier attractions – the Prado Museum. The new owners, Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental and a Saudi investment group, intend to dig up the garden in favour of an underground spa with a gym and pool. Bathrooms will be redesigned, the number of bedrooms will be increased by raising the roof to build attic rooms, and existing bedrooms will be reconfigured to create larger suites.
