Nairobi’s Westgate mall to reopen two years after terrorist attack
The Westgate shopping mall will reopen in Nairobi on Saturday, almost two years after al Shabaab gunmen massacred at 67 people inside.
Once a totem of Kenya’s burgeoning prosperity, the Westgate mall and it’s continued closure became symbolic of the insecurity in the east African nation. Nairobi’s governor said the September 2013 attack was undoubtedly “one of the saddest days in Kenyan history”, but he touted the mall’s reopening as a triumph of national resilience.
