From 2016 you’ll be able to take a virtual trek through Australia’s outback thanks to a collaborative project between Google maps and the Northern Territory government.
Staff at the NT Parks and Wildlife Commission have been walking remote tracks in the NT recording and mapping scenery from Uluru to Kakadu National Park. The camera weighs 18kg and has 15 lenses to capture a 360-degree view. According to one staffer, the challenge was keeping yourself out of shot when climbing steep passes by grabbing hold of a tree for balance for example. Read more: mashable.com
