Thousands of fish die in Brazil after aquarium construction delay

More than 10,000 fish in temporary holding tanks have died during the construction of what is to become the the world’s largest freshwater aquarium in Brazil.

The fish, some of which were imported from Africa, Asia and Oceana, were in the care of a firm called Anambi. Documentation from the firm states that 80 percent of the fish died from a temperature drop as winter approached in the southern hemisphere. But government officials say technical failures in the tanks could be the cause, including inadequate cleaning, poor oxygenation and the presence of bacteria. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
