Trench warfare comes to Glasgow park

WWI trenches are to be recreated in a Scottish park. Pollok Country Park, near Glasgow, will feature Allied and German trench systems and host a programme of events that aims to show how soldiers survived on the Western Front.

The park was home to an auxiliary hospital for convalescing soldiers, and the exhibition will also explore the impact of the war on communities in Britain, medicine and the role of women. The reconstruction will open on 19 September, and organisers say they hope it will offer ‘visceral insight into the semi-subterranean world in which soldiers lived and in so many cases died’.
