‘Frankenstein’ Nefertiti statue removed from Egyptian town

A giant bust of the legendarily beautiful ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, has been removed from Samalut after it attracted widespread ridicule, with some even invoking Pharaonic wrath on the artists.

The statue bore little resemblance to the celebrated figurine of the queen on display in Berlin’s Neues Museum and drew unfortunate comparisons to Frankenstein from online commentators. Samalut’s mayor, Jamal Qinnawi, has said the “ill-looking” sculpture has now been taken down from the city’s entrance. Read more: edition.cnn.com
