Iconic tourist attraction in Australian outback burns down

The Waltzing Matilda Centre in the outback Queensland town of Winton burned down on Wednesday night leaving a town devastated by the loss. The cafe, art gallery and museum were destroyed in the blaze including historic artefacts, which took more than four hours to put out. The centre was a popular tourist draw and was dedicated to the story behind the eponymous bush ballad penned by Banjo Paterson while staying on a sheep and cattle station near Winton in the late 1890s. The community hopes to rally together to rebuild the attraction which employed 19 local people. Read more: 9news.com.au
