Officials reopen beaches after two shark attacks in North Carolina

The beaches of Oak Island, a resort town in North Carolina, are open again on Monday only a day after two young people suffered injuries in two separate shark attacks. A 16-year-old boy lost a limb and a 12-year-old girl lost part of her arm in the attacks which happened just over an hour apart on Sunday. Both victims were swimming in waist deep water around 20ft offshore and are now in a stable condition in hospital after having surgery. Oak Island officials plan to closely monitor the beaches but believe them to be safe for swimming. Read more: reuters.com
