Hobart’s Dark Mofo festival draws record crowd

Festival producers hope to surpass last year’s attendance at the winter festival Dark Mofo in the southern port city of Hobart in Tasmania this year. The festival features grand-scale art works and light and sound shows. Among the big draws this year is a fire organ created by Dutch chemo-acoustic artist Bastiaan Maris that makes music from the most unlikely ingredients while producing fire and explosions and an installation called Night Ship which is travelling up the Derwent River. Hobart’s world-renowned Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) has a new exhibition of performance art by Mariana Abramovic’s which sees her covered in snakes, eating a raw onion and screaming.
