China teams up with Russia to launch self-drive communist tours

For the first time China is partnering up with Russia to launch a large-scale self-drive ‘Red tourism’ tour. Opening on 29 June, the tour will hit key communist sites along a route that spans the hometowns of communist leaders Mao Zedong and Vladimir Lenin. The tour comes as part of a larger initiative to boost tourism to revolutionary sites and there are plans to launch a high-speed rail service to better link ‘Red tourism’ hotspots. Last year China saw around 900 million tourists visit its communist sites and its tourism income increase by approximately 35 %. Read more: chinadaily.com
