Belgium issues €2.50 coin for Battle of Waterloo anniversary

Belgium is issuing 70,000 €2.50 coins to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, which falls on 18 June. Originally it had started minting €2 coins but France protested claiming it would create tension within Europe. Belgium has gotten around this using a rule that allows eurozone countries to issue irregular denominations. The coins will be able to be used in shops in Belgium but they are expected to be snapped up by collectors. Read more: theguardian.com
