Nairobi airport fails standard for direct US flights

Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has failed in its attempt to attain approval for direct flights between the United States and Kenya. According to the Auditor General’s April 2015 report, the airport achieved a score of 78%, which is two percentage points short of the required 80% for the coveted FAA Cat I certification. Kenya has been trying to get a foothold on the North American market, and direct flights were seen as a key to obtaining it. Kenya Airways largest competitor – Ethiopian Airlines – recently launched service between Addis Ababa and Los Angeles. Read more: tourismupdate.co.za
