Israel’s Midburn festival to go ahead

Israel’s version of the Burning Man festival is set to begin tomorrow, after weeks of wrangling between police and organisers.The four-day Midburn festival, which takes place in the Negev Desert, celebrates art, music and performance and the central event is the ceremonial burning of a giant wooden statue. The festival looked likely to be called off altogether over disputes, but it has been agreed that nudity will be allowed only in closed-off areas and two major art installations can be burned.
