Sarajevo Roses war memorial to be restored

The Bosnian city of Sarajevo has begun a project to restore 105 ‘Sarajevo Roses’, which mark the places where deadly bombs fell during the 1990s Bosnia War. The indentations in the pavement made by exploding shells form a pattern similar to a rose, and after the war these marks were filled with red resin as a memorial to the people killed during the siege of Sarajevo. However, over time the red resin has worn away, leaving the scars bare again. The new project will fill the roses with a climate-resistant red substance, creating a lasting memorial.
