Nicaragua's Telica volcano comes to life with dramatic eruptions

Telica volcano in northwestern Nicaragua sputtered into action over the weekend, with a spate of dramatic eruptions that spewed ash and rock 400m into the sky and caused fires among the vegetation on its slopes. Nicaragua’s disaster prevention agency said the increased activity was not significant enough to warrant an evacuation plan at present. The volcano (1061m), near Léon, is promoted as a tourist climb and a number of onlookers were close to the crater when the volcano started erupting late last week. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
