'Great white shark' sighting near Magaluf sparks social media debate

A tourist’s photo of a large finned fish near the Mallorcan booze-fuelled resort of Magaluf has caused a storm on social media after one local claimed it could be a great white shark. Great white sharks are not unheard of in the Mediterranean, but they rarely swim close to shore and there hasn’t been an injury caused by a shark in Med waters since 1993. The picture was snapped by a member of the local diving school at Palmanova, just a few miles from Magaluf. Other observers believed it could be a large tuna or a smaller shark species. Last year blue sharks were spotted off the coast of Corsica and near Barcelona, putting tourists on their guard. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
